The Alaskan king crab is a very large crab species, with an average weight of 10 kilograms and an average length of 220 millimeters. The shell is up to 28 cm wide and the feet are fully spread up to 1.8 m. King crabs originated from the ancestors of hermit crabs, so adult king crabs are not symmetrical. The asymmetry of the king crab's abdomen is similar to that of the hermit crab, which is enclosed in a spiral shell. [1]
